History [ edit ]
Original Gelinfude station by the big Western Railway in October 1, 1904 a new main north -enabled [4] .
The current station is adjacent to the original station, designed by Brian Lewis and built alongside the construction of the extension of the Central Line . It is part of the London Passenger Transport Bureau 's new engineering plan of 1935-1940 . This station was completed by Federico France Charles Curtis and it was opened on June 30, 1947. The station was delayed due to the impact of the Second World War [4] . The original railway service gradually decreased and was closed in 1963. The company responsible for the operation of the station in November 13, 1967 by the British Rail transferred to Transport for London [5] .
The site of the new north main line can still be seen in the window of the Central Line train.
Current station [ edit ]
Greenford Station is a ground station on an island-style platform on the Central Line. Between the subway platform there is a southeast-facing bay-type platform serving the Greenford feeder train, operated by the Great Western Railway . Extension to the south and Seay spirit and Great Western Main Line converge.
Platform 1 is the London Underground train far away from London. It usually goes to Ciresripe and platform 3 goes to Central London.
Greenford was the first London Underground station to have an escalator up to the platform [6] . Until 2014, it was the last wooden escalator that continued to be used on the London Underground. Most of the other escalators were converted to metal or directly dismantled to prevent the 1987 King Cross fire from recurring.
The routes between Greenford and West Ealing still have infrequent freight trains from Paddington New Park and Royal Park trains, and there are passenger trains in use.
In 2009 due to financial difficulties, the Transport Department of London decided to stop providing barrier-free access at Greenford and the remaining five stations. These stations are relatively few people use, and some of the existing barrier-free stations are separated by only one or two stations [7] . Greenford’s £3.9 million improvement project was also suspended [8] . The accessibility plan for this station includes a glass oblique lift , which was later restarted and the lift was activated on October 20, 2015 [9] .
